Palop: “It’s time to unite, keep working and move forward”
The former goalkeeper and Valencia CF legend speaks to VCF Media Radio about the current situation of the team
The Spain squad for the upcoming trio of Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying games was announced on Thursday, with two Valencia CF players selected. Alongside José Luis Gayà -a regular for ‘La Roja’- Carlos Soler has received his first official callup to represent his country at senior level.
Soler spoke to VCF Media after the announcement, expressing his happiness at having been included by coach Luis Enrique.
It's come at a time in which I've turned 24 years old, with a little more maturity and a few years of playing many games in the Primera División for Valencia CF. This comes off the back of the Olympic Games, and a good performance there to win the silver medal. I'm happy to help in these coming games,” he said.
The midfielder has already been part of the national team setup, as during the runup to Euro 2020 he was part of the reserve squad convened at the last minute.
“I did what I think any player would have done. When the national team coach calls you up, it doesn't matter where you've been; I would have gone anyway. I was going to go to Mexico for a few days beforehand, but it really didn't matter,” he explained.
“Spending that week with the national team made me very proud. Now I get to be with the full squad, and I know the majority of them. It's a big thing for me.”
"José Luis Gayà is almost a veteran for Spain now. We're going to think about tomorrow's game first, then we'll think about the national team.
“The important thing is how the team perform. If things go well for me, then I think they'll go well for the team -and viceversa. We'll look to find that combination and keep picking up the three points, which would be the best thing.”
